Eastern Access Community Health (EACH)
Halcyon provides a range of psychiatric rehabilitation and support services and programs designed to enhance the quality of life and living skills of people living with a psychiatric disability. The organisation provides individual support and referral, programs for skill development, physical health, emotional and social development and links to the wider community. Participants must be between 17 and 64 years and have a diagnosed mental illness, be receiving treatment from a psychiatrist or general practitioner and live in the City of Knox.
Participants attending groups or those with a particular need are assigned a key worker. Together they formulate an individual program plan which outlines personal goals and explore strategies to achieve those goals. Regular reviews are held to ensure the appropriate service is being delivered and the level and type of support offered will be negotiated between the worker and participant. *Participants who have a case manager or key worker elsewhere may not require this service.
Recreational and developmental groups are offered throughout the week to provide activities and opportunities for social connection. These groups may be time limited or ongoing and a booking system operates for most groups and courses and groups vary throughout the year according to demand. Drop-in times are also available when participants can meet and socialise in a friendly and informal environment at the centre, located in Ferntree Gully and convenient to public transport. Halcyon is funded by the Department of Human Services; therefore the services are provided at no cost to clients; however there may be a small materials fee for some groups or for entry fee for outings.
Examples of groups and activities include Art/Craft, Bushwalking, Music, Mens/Womens Group, Self-management techniques, Hearing voices, Wise Minds Wise Choices (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), QUIT, and Weight loss support.
