Knox Community Health Service (KCHS) has a workforce of 120 staff and is supported by 34 volunteers. KCHS mission is ‘working with and in communities to improve health and wellbeing’. A comprehensive range of services are delivered to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of individuals, families and communities in the City of Knox. Programs and services are delivered either individually or as a group and the health promotion team is strongly engaged with the community.
Services include dental services for people on health care cards, counseling, psychology, diabetes education, dietetics, family support services, paediatric speech pathology, paediatric occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, youth health and counseling and a needle and syringe program. In addition to individual services, Knox Community Health Service also provides a range of exercise, nutritional, parenting, behavioral, social and support activities and programs.
Special consideration is placed on access to services by the whole community. Access measures include free services for youth, low cost services for health care/pension card holders; priority appointments for clients in crisis or pain and flexible working hours; facilities ensuring accessibility for the physically challenged; the availability of a range of bi-lingual staff; an interpreting service; and availability and translated material for clients from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
